IPL, Website and the Dog

2009 April 18

Today is the first day of Indian Premiere League and I am still watching the match between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. Something really amazing happened at 4th over around 4.35 PM when a black dog just walked in the ground and made the players, viewers and everyone else wait for almost six minutes. It was fun to see players, security and others running behind it and making tricks to make him leave. The very first attempt was made by the leg umpire who came and commanded the dog to leave (yes the gesture was like that !). The dog might have surely thought, dude I am not a player to obey you.

Well, even a lady who seemed to be the owner came with some  biscuits, but the dog wasn’t ready at all. So this star dog took almost 6-7 minutes of IPL T20’s time but was fun for the spectators. Someone rightly said Every dog has its day !!!

In the midst of this I saw that this year IPL is advertising its own website www.IPLT20.com through banners and ads in and around the stadium.

I thought I would check some videos or pics live (as the website ad claimed), but to my disappointment their server was unable to bare the load in the very first day of IPL. Yes the IPLT20.com was down.

Now this is something which these big houses need to realize. There is a considerable audience of in the web who cannot be left to poorly designed websites.

A poor start and a thumbs down from to the Web 2.0 savvy junta.

Advertising Online - Google may not be a good idea

2009 April 18

So are you some offline enterprise or an online solution provider that is looking for the Google Adword for optimized, content specific and targeted marketing campaign. Already decided and got the budget sanctioned by your boss, then wait and take a decision only after you read this.

Yes it seems that for the first time (at least as of my knowledge) Google goes offline for promotion. The best (advertisers read worst ) part and the pun is that the company that claims to provide content based advertising and targeted marketing and promotional campaigns to its clients, has to go offline to promote one of its own service.

This would certainly make a lot of people to think the relevance of Google Ads before investing in it. Today when I was in a Mobile Shop for my recharge, I saw this two-folds leaflet and Google Bookmark (yes this one is the actual bookmark and not the virtual one !) kept with the promo leafs of other mobiles.

Here is the front and back of the leaflet that I brought with me

Google leaf_outside

And this one is the inside of the two fold leaflet. Note that it contains all the links of Google on Mobile.

Google leaf_inside

Shall we assume that here the online strategies seems not to be working that much or that the trivial marketing takes over the techno marketing.

Google Bookmarks : oh no! I did not mean the one you use through www.google.com/bookmarks but this one is a real physical bookmark that we actually keep inside a book. This almost has the same content as the promo leaf above but is a better way of branding and make customer actually use your freebie.

Well I need to confess that even here (bookmarks) the innovation of Google was seen (see the arrows and text in italics). So folks lets see who else takes the trivial turn now !

Wordpress Pluggin to pull Posts and Category in a page

Came out a wonderful pluggin that pulls a post into a page. This one is called Inline Post by Aral Balkan, I was actually searching a utility like this since I started working on wordpress. However this pluggin fails to pull out all the posts of a particular category.

Thanks to open source, I got another one by Ronny which pulls out a post as well as the post from a particular category on a page.  Thanks to both of you.

Whats new in this Blog

Hello everyone, it has been quiet a long time that I have written a blog. With the ones I am currently having, I found it difficult to fit in all that comes to my mind. Also I have been reading and researching a lot on technology and Web now and my life as usual has been very eventful.

I also discussed and googled the importance of once own blog with a custom domain name, (this is soon going to be hosted on www.kaustubhverma.com) and despite having a score of social profiles I feel that I needed a canvas to experiment and showcase my presence and ideas in the world wide web.

This place is for friends and family and others who are keen to know what I am doing. As I said I have been researching a lot, I would cover a variety of topics like stuff from google (my favorite), browsers, open source tools essential for you, Web 2.0 (this is atleast my bread if not butter), gadgets and off course the places, people and food I come across.

In last few days I also figured out that Murphy is my best friend (yes the one of Murphy’s law fame). Everything that could have gone wrong, did go wrong in my involvement with various situations, servives and products, and as a result I have become a good consultant for disaster management.

Well that is it… I would typically blog on Travel, Life, Technology, Food, Advertising, Movies, Wordpress, Web 2.0, google , open source, social networking and whatever that I can preach on.

At last thanks to Wordpress (I am a deciple of yours !) and the clean Vigilance theme and offcourse some pluggins that would help me manage a lot of stuff. This one is been hosted on a different service than GoDaddy and lets see hwo far it succeeds.

With all my love.
